About Me

My name is Gabriel, and I’m a senior studying Quantitative Economics at Tufts University. I was born and raised in Brazil, specifically in a city called Salvador, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. Back in Brazil are my parents, little brother, and my cockatiel bird.

During my entire upbringing, I lived in the same city, neighborhood, and house, and even attended the same school from kindergarten through high school.

In high school, I decided to explore different things and challenge myself. I started getting involved in scientific research, math Olympiads, volunteering organizations, Model United Nations, and various competitions. These programs were not offered by the school or part of the curriculum, but I managed to either find external providers and introduce these activities to my school.

After being selected for the National Congress's youth program, I took my first airplane flight to Brasília, the country’s capital, to work with congresspeople and senators, proposing laws on economic development.

This experience left me with two lessons: 1) I don’t want to be a politician, but 2) I wanted to learn more about economics.

Although I had never considered studying abroad, I connected with other students who had international experiences. From them, I learned that I could use my robust high school experience to apply for summer programs and even a college degree in the United States. I did both successfully.

Now at Tufts University, I have further developed my interests through significant on- and off-campus experiences. On campus, I have led the Treasury for the Tufts Brazilian Student Association and the campus Marketing Club, Imaginet. I am also a Teaching Assistant for Portuguese and have worked in the library, the residential life office, and even cooking positions in the dining hall – yes, I can cook!

Outside of school, I have developed significant work experience within the finance and startup ecosystem in Latin America. During my first and second years, I worked at a startup and supported startups and entrepreneurs, respectively. In my third year, I was involved in the financial services industry, providing wealth management advising to individuals in Latin America.
